…Neither can he sin because he is born of God"
How is it that commentators and many who believe them for the sake of catholic doctrine, say this means practice sin. If a man is born of God and cannot sin, how is it that you say this means PRACTICE, after hearing CANNOT SIN.
It is evident that many are running under their experiences instead of the power of God, yes or no?
Is this your perception or God’s teaching?
The part of me that was born again, born of God, cannot sin. It wasn’t my flesh that was born again and it wasn’t my soul that was born again, it was in the spirit of my heart that was born of God, John 3: 8 Romans 6: 4 and 7: 6 and Colossians 2: 12 and 2: 29
And my spirit doesn’t practice sin neither can I sin because I am born of God.
It has nothing to do with "practicing" or "not practicing" sin. Only bad "modern versions" add those words, but those words are not in the Greek. The truth is that every believer "practices sin", because all believers are still sinners. All believers still sin willfully. Some more than others, and obviously avoiding sin is always the right thing. But it is not a salvation issue if the person believes in JESUS for salvation (since that person is forgiven all sins). Instead, it is a discipline issue, a discipleship issue, a liberty from sin issue, and a testimony issue, among other things.
1 John 3:9 is saying that the new man (the inner born again man) does not sin, Romans 7:20. The old man (the flesh) still sins.
Read Romans chapter 7, where this verse is explained clearly.

John 3:16!
If that is the correct interpretation, the problem is that only God knows if one "practices" sin… and, if one does "practice" sin (based on the same interpretation), it would only prove that this person was never saved to begin with.

I would like anyone who is a Christian and gave this answer a thumbs down to e-mail me explaining why.
This is just one of many contradictions that can be found in the bible. It won’t be the first time people ignore it.

"No one who is born of God will continue to sin, because God’s seed remains in him; he cannot go on sinning, because he has been born of God."
Wesley’s Notes
3:9 Whosoever is born of God – By living faith, whereby God is continually breathing spiritual life into his soul, and his soul is continually breathing out love and prayer to God, doth not commit sin. For the divine seed of loving faith abideth in him; and, so long as it doth, he cannot sin, because he is born of God – Is inwardly and universally changed
Matthew Henry
To be born of God is to be inwardly renewed by the power of the Spirit of God. Renewing grace is an abiding principle. Religion is not an art, a matter of dexterity and skill, but a new nature. And the regenerate person cannot sin as he did before he was born of God, and as others do who are not born again. There is that light in his mind, which shows him the evil and malignity of sin. There is that bias upon his heart, which disposes him to loathe and hate sin. There is the spiritual principle that opposes sinful acts. And there is repentance for sin, if committed. It goes against him to sin with forethought. The children of God and the children of the devil have their distinct characters. The seed of the serpent are known by neglect of religion, and by their hating real Christians. He only is righteous before God, as a justified believer, who is taught and disposed to righteousness by the Holy Spirit. In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil. May all professors of the gospel lay these truths to heart, and try themselves by them.

just b/c you’re born again or have accepted God/Jesus as your personal savior does not give you a VIP pass into Heaven. You must also look at what Jesus said (i don’t know the exact verse or quote) but basically is goes…once you have accepted God into your heart and have become born again your previous sins of your previous life will be forgiven (meaning clean slate) but you must from thence forth lead a righteous life. What I get outta of this is that yes you get a clean slate, but you cannot knowingly or intentionally cont to commit sins or sins of your previous life. We all sin yes, and we’re all born into sin, but you must try (and God knows whether you’re trying or paying lip service) not to sin. When you do sin or have sin your heart you must go to God and ask his forgiveness. But in my personal opinion…..God is a very understanding and forgiving God but if you cont to commit, repeatedly, the same offense…I think you’ll have to answer to that at the Pearly Gates..you know what I’m saying.
Most born agains don’t believe this and they cont to sin repetitively b/c they think they have the VIP pass into heaven b/c they go to church every week. They say they’re Christians but their actions rarely back up their words. And God knows the difference.

1 john 3:9: Whosoever is born of god doth not commit sin: for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin because he is born of god. From reading this scripture i believe you choose not to do wrong anymore first from the first part of the scripture, then you cannot sin anymore because you are completely changed from your ways. Which makes you righteous, because you are without sin, completely.
You have to learn his teachings first then practice them probably making mistakes then as a wise man you should learn from them.
This passage represents the fully committed and changed individuals which we have a few in the world.
Practicing does not mean you are changed its just means you are on your way to being fully commited unto thee.

When we have received the gift of the Holy Spirit of Truth, then can we rightly divide the Word of Truth, such as in this verse which goes with verse eight. The person that commits sin (i.e.willfully,deliberately sins) is of the devil. Then we go to verse nine, But the person that is born of God does not commit sin (i.e.willfully,deliberately sin). Then in verse ten we see who is the children of God, and the children of the devil, the difference is evident, God´s children have now the conscience in them by the Holy Ghost to longer abide in willful, deliberate sin, whereas Satan´s children continue in willful, deliberate sin.

John 3:4 Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.
5 And ye know that he was manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin.
6 Whosoever abideth in him sinneth not: whosoever sinneth hath not seen him, neither known him.
7 Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous.
8 He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.
9 Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.
10 In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother.
11 For this is the message that ye heard from the beginning, that we should love one another.
This is simply saying that in Christ we cannot Sin. Yes, we still have our sinful nature that is being put to death daily but, if we are truly walking in His ways and doing the will of the Father then there is no Sin in us. That old Sin nature has been dealt with on the cross of Calvary. We now have a covering which is Jesus Christ. While we are still living in this flesh the temptations and trials will continue to plague us. However, we have a way out and that is through Christ. Thanks for this question. Very good.

* "Committeth not sin"… That is, as long as he keepeth in himself this seed of grace, and this divine generation, by which he is born of God. But then he may fall from this happy state, by the abuse of his free will, as appears from Rom. 11. 20-22; Cor. 9. 27; and 10. 12; Phil. 2. 12; Apoc. 3. 11.

When it says "cannot", it is equivalent to saying that it is "impossible."
