How does temptation relate to sin? Does the power of God keep you away from sin?

We are tempted on a daily basis by the devil. The indwelling Holy Spirit will guide us into all truth…..and He will also empower us to turn away from the temptation.

Read 1 Corinthians 10:13
"No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it."

  1. Preacher's Neice says:

If you were a "christian", you wouldn’t NEED to ask this! (And why are you so concerned about something that you don’t even believe in?)

I would hope your sense of morality prevented you from doing bad things rather than just because you were told not to by the priest.

Temptation is where all sin starts. The power of God does not keep you away from sin. The power of choice does, which God gave you. If you have God in you life the right decisions will be apparent, however.

Ignore the Christian answers. What makes you sure there is a God?

Temptation is exactly just that tempting you to to sin or commit acts opposing god’s original laws. yes the power of god and the love for him keeps you from sinning.

  7. Craig W. Dressler says:

Being tempted is not sin. The devil and his minions often whisper in our ears and try to get us to sin or head in that direction. Much of the media that is not Christian can also lead us toward sin. The blood Jesus shed on the cross for our sins is a powerful weapon against temptation when we plead it over our senses to protect us from the devil’s whispers. Also, the Word of God found in the Bible when spoken aloud against temptation is another powerful tool.

To be tempted does not mean you are sinning. To sin is to allow that temptation to come to fruit.

First I have to say that Preacher’s niece must not realize that on R&S many of the questions are just asking for other opinions and views. there are many categories that are similar. Anyhoo, temptation relates to sin when we decide if we are going to feed it or starve it. If we feed it with our thoughts, that will eventually lead to an action. Continuing on this path will lead to death – whether physical or spiritual or both. If we choose to starve it then yes, the power of God will give you a way of escape. One of the definitions of grace is divine enablement. His grace will enable you to keep from sinning if you do not keep feeding the temptation.

temptn by itself isnt sin..but yielding to it , IS…yes power of god can keep us away frm sin..but it lies with the one who strongly believs in it(power of god)..

Temptation relates to sin in this way:
there is always something out there
in the world to focus on, away from
God, so to speak…there is alot of
    misunderstanding going on on the
    planet…and when understanding
    clearly, studying in Scripture is
one of the ways to put the power
of God over and around all circumstances.

So it is up to me where to put my focus,
and when focused on God, yes, indeed,
the poser of God keeps me clear headed
and understanding what my next step is
to be…and that’s how the power of God works in this
    for me…

    thanks for the Q ;)

Blessings, the power of God will keep us, but we are going to sin in a way or other, because our nature is sinful and God knows it. (1 John 1:5–10 ) ….5 This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. 6 we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. 7 But if we walk in the light, he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin. 8 if we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and tthe truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we say we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us…..

1 John 2:10–14 My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. 2 He is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the sins of the whole world.

  13. Buzzzbe says:

There is no temptation taken you but such as is common to man.
But God is faithful who will not allow you to be tempted above.
He will make a way for us to escape.
