Do you attend church cause it’s your parents church or do you go cause you feel the power of God?

AT my parents church i would not be surprised if 70% of those go ther cause that is what they have done for the last 30 years, or cuse there parents go there. lutheran ELCA.

today i rarely attend that church, i go to others that are more evangelical.

what do you think?

My mother hates organized religion. My father is an Atheist.

And yet I am an Eastern Orthodox Christian.

It’s safe to say that my parents have nothing to do with my faith.

I go to church because I believe in God. I go to an Orthodox Church because that is the style of worship that allows me to best express my belief.

People seem to think that they are confined by their parent’s beliefs. They aren’t. We are all individuals capable of thinking for ourselves. To reach the truth, we must question everything.

I was dragged to church when I was a kid and even forced into Bible School.

I hated all of it even then. Once I was old enough to fight back, I never went again.

The only motive of worshipping GOD, is to find peace and worship him with all ur soul, it doesnt matter if it is this church or another if it is mosque or temple.

i had to ask myself that when i was getting serious about a boy i was dating, and he was a different faith. I went through a very serious conversion. He accused me of ‘not knowing anything about my religion’. well, if that’s not a challenge what is?? As a result, I learned about his faith, my faith, other faiths, ancient faiths…on and on. In the end, my initial faith was tested and withstood the test, I was more knowledgable about myself, and my faith. He joined my faith (against the vehement opposition and rejection of his family), and we have been happily married for 8 years.

  13. The Bible (gives Hope) says:

Yeah I agree. I only went to Catholic church when I was a kid, because my parents told me to, and thier parents also went to church too and told them to go to church. It’s passed on from generation.

But when you go to a church that is not the same as the one you are raised, it means you are going there based on what you personally believe, and your beliefs have been defined as being different from those where you were raised.

I was taught things by the Catholic church such as the stories in the Bible, and other things that I still know today, but later I went to other churches as I saw that I could not be discipled there correctly.

But it’s not about a church building, or community. It’s about what we personally believe which comes from the Bible.
So there is a greater church that covers all those who believe Jesus is Lord from various denominations. Some have weaker faith, and stay in a church that they are not sure is the right one (I say this from personal experience). Others stand on a more firm foundation of faith from the Bible, and see errors in various churches, and can’t find the right church (this is my experience).
There is no right church other than the church established by Jesus based on the foundation of faith in Jesus. This foundation is not on Peter, but on the confession of Peter which was revealed to Him that Jeus is the Christ, and the confession that Jesus is Lord is what identifies us as being part of that church.

because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.
