What is the significance of a miracle in becoming a saint?

Saw a story on John Paul II and the road to sainthood. What does the miracle mean?

Sainthood, in the catholic church, is granted to those that can be "proven" to reside in Heaven. The church teaches that the best way to determine that is if the person’s spirit intervened on Earth, meaning they must be in heaven and in God’s good graces.

I don’t believe in any of this but I’m just relaying what I was taught when I was a practicing Catholic.

i don’t want to sound disrespectful to you because disrespect to you is not intended but given resent hoo-har i have little faith in today’s pope or popes of past let alone recognize them as saints. I’m sorry i just can’t see them as anything but frauds, I’m more saintly myself.

it is a way we can positively say the person is in Heaven and has the ear of Jesus as a member of the Body of Christ in the Heavenly court as his/her petition is granted
