How do I teach what a miracle is to a 3rd grader?

Especially to English Learners, how do I make sense to them, what a miracle means?

Since a miracle is a result of divine intervention, you should probably not be teaching about them unless you teach at a private religious school. I am not judging. I am just one teacher trying to save another teacher a lot of grief.

Find a story that contains a "miracle" in it.
I’m assuming you’re in a public school, so religious stories are out…
    or
Engage their imagination, and yours, by making up a story.

Start off with "I want everyone to close their eyes and imagine"

You might also find that many students from other countries are already familiar with the concept of miracles through their traditional/cultural/religious stories. Use this to your advantage by getting them to try to explain what a miracle is to the other kids.
