How do I restore my relationship with Christ?

I want to feel and know that I’m forgiven and that God still loves me. I am a struggling pornography addict. Many times I have asked God to give me strength to not fall into temptation. But I mostly always do go back into my own ways.. Is this because God isn’t in my life? Please, I need help.

I would suggest spend time reading the Bible and in prayer and in a good Bible believing Church. You are right in believing that salvation isn’t in a building or institution, it is in a relationship with God and Jesus as Lord of your life!

I think we all know that feeling though.

God wants a relationship with us and it is in our hearts where we need to find God. In both the old and the new Testament we see that God is willing to forgive IF we are willing to ask and sincerely repent. In his sermon that became a book “The Greatest thing in the World”, Henry Drummond talks about love and our relationship with God. There are many hearts that if we read Matthew 7 will not make it past the gates of heaven.

H.D. preached it over a century ago, you may learn from this.

There is only one source of freedom and hope and light in this world, many will try and drag you into the dark with them (and I got dragged there too) and once you truly start down the narrow path you will not find it easy. It is the only path worthy of the effort though!

“A silly idea is current that good people do not know what temptation means. This is an obvious lie. Only those who try to resist temptation know how strong it is… A man who gives in to temptation after five minutes simply does not know what it would have been like an hour later. That is why bad people, in one sense, know very little about badness. They have lived a sheltered life by always giving in.” – C. S. Lewis

“The Christian ideal has not been tried and found wanting; it has been found difficult and left untried.” G.K. Chesterton

Ultimately there is only one source of freedom, not freedom from temptaion but freedom from sin.

John 8
31 So Jesus was saying to those Jews who had believed Him, “If you continue in My word, then you are truly disciples of Mine;
32 and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.”

John 8
34 Jesus answered them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who commits sin is the slave of sin.
35 “The slave does not remain in the house forever; the son does remain forever.
36 “So if the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed.

God is with you in your worst times more than ever. It’s because your in your bad state of mind that you can’t feel His prescense. I’ve struggled with pornography and struggle every now and again. Make sure to always go to church even if it doesn’t seem like it’s doing anything. I know it sounds cheesy, but it will occupy your mind with Godly things. Use God as a distraction. Get out and do things with friends, go to starbucks and maybe read a book, buy a cool video game. Maybe block any of your favorite porn sites, or ban yourself from the internet (or wherever you get porn) until you know you can control yourself. You won’t want to see it as much if your not exposed to it as much. I know that God is watching over you, and proud you are trying to the the right thing. He loves you, but hates that your doing this. Keep praying, and askng Him to help you with this. Be sure that when you pray, it’s not just you talking, sit there, and try to hear His voice. I know you will get over this addiction by your willingness to have a relationship with Christ. God Bless you, and you can do this.

Well, you’ve already made a HUGE first step…admitting your problem and showing a deep concern that you want to change. Many people can’t even do that, so congrats to you. I’m struggling with the same problem- spiritually stuck and my relationship with Christ is about dead. I’ve become a really bitter person and doing things I know are wrong. So I guess my advice doesn’t exactly help, but I would say to just pray and ask God to help you with your temptations- because I think he will help. Yes, you will still need to resist the temptations, but it will give you strength to do so. I’d also say to go to church…if you already do, then great. You could also have an accountability partner that you know to help you and make sure you are staying on track.
Hopefully that helped…I’ll try to take my own advice in the meantime…

Hey Kenneth! This is something I have struggled with in the past. Biblically, it is very simple, but putting things into action is difficult. You already know how dangerous this is, that’s half the battle. From here, you need to actively pursue your relationship with Christ. Trust me, I don’t mean works salvation. You pray to God for strength, great! But those times when you fall, you probably were not praying. It doesn’t have to 24-7 prayer but read the bible, limit internet time, join a men’s bible study, talk to your pastor or priest, and pray again. And ask other to pray for you. You have at least one praying for you! Be blessed Kenneth!

  14. Christ-4-Life says:

If words could have said it all this would be easily explained but they can’t. Wanting to reach to that place in God requires alot but yet so little. All it takes is letting go and letting God. He provides, restores and elevates. But honestly He can’t if we won’t let Him. I wished I knew how to do it sooner. But the determination to have that relationship with Him stirs up something that makes you want to get radical. And it’s getting radical that brings you to that place. We need to trust Him in all we do and place it in His hands from the get go instead of trying to do it ourselves, messing things up and then coming to Him.

God begs us to come unto Him. He wants to have a relationship with us. John 15:13-17 “Greater love
has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends. You are
My friends if you do whatever I command you. No longer do I call you servants,
for a servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you
friends, for all things that I heard from My Father I have made known to you. Throughout the bible God speaks about His love towards us and the fact that He desires a relationship between Him and His children (us). His hand is already extended, we just need to reach out ours and take His.

God is Able. It may sound as known facts but it’s more. He’s able to accomplish all the things we doubt. We just need to fully put our trust and faith in Him. If it doesn’t work out, it’s because He never wanted it to and it also says that He has a greater plan. Proverbs 3:5-6: “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not
unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he
    shall direct thy paths."

God is merciful and never leaves us, even when we walk away. He is there for us always and we just need to come unto Him and be obedient. Romans 12:2 "Be not conformed to this world but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind; that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of GOD."

Wow this is great! The first thing to know is that our relationship with God is a personal relationship. He has made us all different and he deals with us differently. The Bible is a guidline for our lives and behaviors but as you obviously know it is impossible to do everything in it. We are all struggling. We all have some area of our lives that is not good for us. Even tho we have some issue’s God is no respector of man. He loves us all and he knows what we are going thru. The Lord will not put more on us than we can bare. It is simple but hard…decide what you want. Our problems are here to keep us close to Christ. We have to soon look for why we want to do the thing’s we do and then talk to the Lord about it. He will make us stronger in him and then our issue’s will become weaker.

If you are Catholic, I would say that the first step would be to go to confession, otherwise, continue to pray to God for forgiveness and strength. You can also ask other people to pray for you, you don’t need to tell them everything, just tell them that you need their prayers. In the past few months I have become much closer to God and Christ after going to confession and then getting much more involved in my church (Rosary, Lectoring, Bible Study…). I know that my relationship with God is not perfect, but I believe that if I continue to serve him and follow his ways, that I will truly become a better person, and you can too.

I will pray for you too.

Confess your sins to God and ask for forgiveness. After that you must run from your sin and if you are still feeling guilty about the sins you have committed in the past it is the devil giving you these bad and negative thoughts. You know that you are forgiven and with that comes freedom in Christ. God ALWAYS loves you, no matter what you do. If you want God in your life, He will be there for you (Revelation 3:20) You need to surround yourself with good Christian friends and family that can support you in this struggle and also read the Bible that can guide you, if you don’t already. I hope all the best for you! :)

Religon i beliveve hope that something is there in the after life because the fact that we just live and die is heart breaking in a sense. To me i think that life in general is a constant struggle and we are here to learn and cope with life in a religous tone speaking but i am non religous i want to be religous but it seems like lies to me. But you wanna get back in touch with chirst i would pray for forgiveness after every session of masterbating because pornography is like a drug. It doesnt seem like it but it is because we all are attracted to the human body in nature and intercorse is the most intimate, meaning that you will not stop unless you throw away everything you have that is porn dvds, sex toys, magazines, internet and if you can not help yourself no one will be able to because you can only do what you are willing and wanting to do you can see a physcatrist(im 16 ease up on the spelling) but that will only waste time and if you are away from it that will help you. but chirst you can get back in touch by baptising yourself and clensing of the soul, going to church i guess, and praying. Hope ypu find away to overcome this.

Do you spend more time with God daily then porn? God said let not your heart be troubled. So we have a command to let not are hearts be troubled. Sure you will have days like that. If you stick with God he will see you through it. Habits can be as painful as cutting off a limb or taking out and eye. Yet with God nothing is impossible if you trust and believe his word. Faith increases when you spend time in the word of God. Proverbs speaks about sexual weakness.

It was by the spirit that Jesus was lead into the wilderness. He was tempted by Satan. Yet he never sinned. Satan offered him things. Why? Jesus was hungry. Jesus said man shall not live by bread alone but by every word that comes out of the mouth of God. Matthew 4.

It said Satan left him for a time. As long as we live on this earth we will have times of temptation so much so that we will want to give up. You have to remember those times are not your own ways. Those times are the ways of Satan. Sin is birthed by Satan’s deception. God is in your life. Why? Because you would not be bothered by your weakness of porn if he was not there. You can tell by your struggle. You call it and addiction. You have to walk with God a day at a time. You will fall. remember God is determined to save you. Even if you fall seven times he will pick you up again. Ask God for wisdom and knowledge of who he is. Seek him daily and pray for others as will as self.
