What does it really mean to have a relationship with Jesus Christ?

How do you know the difference between whether you have a relationship with Jesus Christ, or if you just are very in tune with yourself and what you need out of life? Or are they essentially one in the same? I am relatively new to Christianity and am trying to get a better understanding – please don’t take my question the wrong way.

It means to believe in Jesus alone for salvation, it really is that simple :)

Salvation is a FREE GIFT that happens in a split second when you believe in Jesus! It is impossible to lose or "leave" salvation.

The truth about Jesus is that the only way to be saved and to get into heaven and avoid being sent to eternal hell, is by believing in faith alone that Jesus, who is God, died for our sins on the cross as FULL PAYMENT for all our sins, and then Jesus rose from the dead (1 Corinthians 15:1-4). Believe this and you will be in heaven, no matter what!

Please pray now: "Jesus, please forgive me of my sins. I believe that You died on the cross for my sins and You rose from the dead. Thank You for eternal life!" You will be in heaven with Him forever when you die. :)

How We Can Honor the Son

17 Since Jesus Christ is without a doubt deserving of our honor, we come to the question: How can we honor the Son? We do so by exercising faith in his ransom sacrifice, and we prove that faith by taking the necessary steps of repentance, conversion, dedication, and baptism. By coming to Jehovah in prayer in Jesus’ name, we honor Jesus. We further honor him when we heed his words: “If anyone wants to come after me, let him disown himself and pick up his torture stake and continually follow me.” (Matthew 16:24) We honor Jesus Christ when we heed his instructions to keep seeking first God’s Kingdom and his righteousness, and we honor him when we heed his command to share in the disciple-making work. Again, we honor Jesus when we manifest the brotherly love that he said would identify all his true followers.—Matthew 6:33; 28:19, 20; John 13:34, 35.

18 Further, we bring honor to the Son by taking upon ourselves his name, calling ourselves Christians, and then by living up to that name by our fine conduct. (Acts 11:26; 1 Peter 2:11, 12) The apostle Peter said that we should follow Jesus’ steps closely. (1 Peter 2:21) By thus imitating him in all our conduct, we also honor him. And certainly, when we annually celebrate the Memorial of Christ’s death, we accord him special honor.—1 Corinthians 11:23-26.

19 What rewards does Jesus hold out to his disciples for following a course that honors him? He said: “Truly I say to you men, No one has left house or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or fields for my sake and for the sake of the good news who will not get a hundredfold now in this period of time, houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and fields, with persecutions, and in the coming system of things everlasting life.”—Mark 10:29, 30.

20 It follows that if we make sacrifices for Jesus’ sake, he will see to it that we are rewarded. Jesus assures us: “Everyone, then, that confesses union with me before men, I will also confess union with him before my Father who is in the heavens.” (Matthew 10:32) So just as the heavenly Father honors those who honor him, we can be confident that Jehovah’s only-begotten Son will imitate his Father in this respect, even as the Son does in other matters.

‘relationship’ is a new term used by protestants to distinguish themselves from the catholics.
What is it – straightforward faith and love of God, wherein faith includes work. The rest are elaborations and expansion of theology.

    Protestant talk!
Jesus if you accept him and want to know him will come in spirit to live in you, he gave us a sacrament of baptism and one of confession.
Confession is where you truly accept your self as a sinner in the eyes of God, (not necessarily the world as it don’t recognise sin) through this act of contrition Jesus is given by you the chance to come and change you into a woman of spirit, he does this in a process and depending on your need and openness!
When Jesus is in you you know beyond any doubt as his presence is felt in your heart and soul and you begin to live the will of God, the Holy Spirit moves slowly and quietly in you top lead you to God and his Church of salvation once here you’ll be driven to abandon yourself to live for God alone and your life’s worries and stresses slowly melt away and replaced with Joy and peace.
God is Love you know when he is with you, he brings you to the fullness of truth.
God bless and remember to be humble before men.

Frederick provides what is known as the Orthodox view of Christianity. It holds little truth and offers "salvation" at the price of truth in self.

Orthodox views are held by those whom follow "Church Doctrine". This doctrine was brought about by the literal conquering of the other Gnostic views and so on. In short, the early Church condemed and killed anyone not "believing" in there literal doctrines of salvation.

Jesus Christ is not a name at all as Christ is about mans evolutionary spiritual perfection that will be, eventualy. Jesus simply portrayed this idea in spiritual-evolution as a symbolic form to teach, Orthodox views missed the entire lesson and took it as literaly "believing in a person-a being" or face damnation. It is truly on of the biggest historical scams of all time.

Jesus Christ represented Truth in all mankind. His ways spelled out within the bible indicated said truths in symbolisms. The storys and so on were symbolic, yet, some were of historical content that were placed with the bible by those whom authored it, no, the bible was not "all" Devine inspriration.

Are you aware that the bible is 40 written books over a span of many centuries? Are you aware the books are largely of unknown authors? Peter, Paul, st luke and st john, all unknown personality’s of unknown origins. Are you aware there were hundred of such books that were not placed into the bible as they contradicted the narrow interpretations the authors wished us to follow?

Take revelations by John of Patmos. The Church will tell you it is St John, yet they have no evidence nor would it deviat truth is they did as mankind can only interpret as they alone see it.

Don’t buy into the narrowed spritualy retarded views of the Orthodox Church. They have nothing to offer in the area of truth.

Orthodox Christianity is one of near complete spritual blindess. They fail to recognize many-many Gods have simalarities and December 25th birthdates for sons whom were sacraficed. The picture is larger than Orthodox Chrisianity wishes to acceptas they are guided by Ego that teaches they alone can dispense the necessary sprituality to allow one into a kingdom They Alone will describe to you…a clue.

The Kingdoms of he non-physical are yours by inheritence. There are no caveats or hoops to jump threw to obtain each as they are earned by your own spritual developments as you evolve. This is truth.

Orthodox Christianity teaches a lie in that you go to God by their grace in teaching you the Jesus literal interpretation, they do not teach that one always spritualy-grows to God and God is not in a place separate from one but is within each.

Absent religion many would be much closer to God, the very concept of all reality.

If you have a relationship with Him, you will speak to Him everyday. It is like any relationship, the only way that any relationship will grow is when you speak to one another and get to know each other better.

"Being in tune with yourself" is something that is not biblical, and has nothing to do with knowing Jesus.
If you want to obey His Word, and to have Him dwell in you, then read His Word and obey.

Acts 2:38 is a great place to start.

    John 15:4
Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.

    John 15:7
If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.

Get to know His Word, and you will know Him.
    John 1:1
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

  7. Benny S says:

If we truly have a relationship with Christ we realize our absolute dependence on Him in our lives. I believe that in order to be "in tune" with ourselves in the truest sense, we must have a relationship with Christ. He is the way, the truth, and the life, and it is only by following in the path He set that we can come to a true understanding of who we are, and what we need in life. It is Him who is the giver of every good gift, and it is because of Him that we can obtain any true insight into what we need out of life. There is so much we don’t understand as mortal beings, and so much that God has in store for us in the future, that we need to be in tune with Him and His Spirit in order to truly be in tune with ourselves and what we need out of life.
The beautiful thing about our relationship with Jesus Christ is that He is always willing, and always does do His part in developing a relationship with us. So it’s really just up to us to do our part. Our part involves loving Him, loving others, keeping His commandments, listening to His voice etc… The blessing is that we will understand His will for us. "But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God. For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God…"For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that hey may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ. (1 Cor. 2:9-11,16)
