I’m trying to explain what I believe salvation is to somebody.
I know that we are in a covenant with God, however the Gospel message is a message of reconcilation which is a relationship between God and man. Fellowship with God in love.
A legal agreement, or covenant has no love. Am I not right?
So what is the covenant other than the covenant of God unconditionally loving us, and we just accepting this love?
Joh 14:15 If ye love me, keep my commandments.
It’s based on principle, not legality.

A covenant is a promise made by God to man. For example, the rainbow covenant was a promise made to Noah and all mankind that he would never again destroy mankind because of their sin. The sending of Jesus and the subsequent death and resurrection of Jesus was what God has done to insure that every human being will have the opportunity to be reconciled with God no matter what sins they have committed. His only requirement is the belief that Jesus is his son and that he came so that you and I might be reconciled to him (God)
